2014 World Series - Game 5 - Oakland 7, St. Louis 0

Game 5:  Samardzija vs. Lynn

Oakland trying to keep their good vibes going and their season going as well.

Right out of the gate, the A's bats with hot; and Lance Lynn just didn't have it!  Two men on in for Bandon Moss, and he unloads on a Lance Lynn room service fastball.  Just like that, 3 - nothing A's.

Top 2 -- right back to for the A's...two men on, and Lance Lynn hangs a slider for Josh Donaldson...now 5 - zilch Athletics.  Early exit for Lynn as he hits the showers!

The cards turn to late season acquisition John Lackey to save the pen, and he does just that.  Yeoman's work Lackey does...going 5 1/3, two runs, fanning six.  With that line, you'd think he started game 5.

After solo runs for Oakland in the 5th, a Stephen Vogt solo shot, and 6th, via a Craig Gentry seeing eye single, we're at 7 to goose egg.

In a curious to some maneuver, Justin Ryan patted his starter on the back after just five innings and 62 pitches.  During the post game press conference, Ryan had this to say: "If we could get this series to a game 7, we may have to call on Jeff again in some capacity.  I wanted there to be a little something -something left in the tank."

Drew Pomeranz came on for three important innings of shutout relief to save the A's pen as well.

Oakland 7, St. Louis 0.
Cardinals lead 3-2.
